What to Wear on a Long Flight

Hello, hello! Ciao, hola, bonjour, what is good?
I'm just gonna get straight to it: I've heard many requests for help about a certain topic. It's vacation time, summer study time, whatever, and many ladies are wondering:

How can I stay stylish while traveling?
How do I stay comfy yet cool on a long flight?

Well, it's actually pretty easy! There's a secret to comfy travel dressing, an it's all about these three things-

  1. Comfortable, natural fabrics
  2. Basic Shapes
  3. Layering

Also, remember this: shoes are key! Especially when you are traveling, shoes can be the most important part of your outfit. They are the base, and if your feet are uncomfortable, you'll be unhappy and it will show! That being said, there are plenty of cute and comfy shoes out there! NO NEED TO BUY CROCS OKAY GUYS?!?! Also, you might want to wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off- TSA regulations require you to take your shoes off while going through security in the USA.

Here are some examples of some stylish, long flight-friendly outfits!
Long Flight?

On my recent 6 hour flight to Mexico from New York, I wore basically this outfit. A loose cotton tee with some fun shorts or harem pants, a light scarf large enough to spread out over you on the plane, Toms sneakers, and a cute necklace (it's a paper airplane!) Don't forget that big ol' carry-on bag, and throw a hoodie or cardigan in it. Even if it's hot where you're going, the plane will probably be cold.

Flight Outfit, 2

Here's another outfit idea- a cute midi-length dress with a cardigan. Add some cute bracelets and lace-up boots or flats and you've got an instant cute outfit.

I might add some more later, but I want to see your ideas! What's your favorite outfit to wear on a plane? Share your ideas, pictures, or Polyvore sets in the comments!

We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams. Yet we are movers and the shakers of the world forever it seems.

What Do I Wear on New Year's Eve?!

Let's face it, sometimes with all of the hype and pressure to have fun, New Year's Eve can be a bit of a letdown.  But I am a firm believer in the New Year's ritual getting some closure on 2010 and smashing in 2011 (two-thousand-and-heaven!) with positivity and a great time. So whether you're celebrating the end of this year by courageously smushing into Times Square to watch the ball drop, dancing the night away, or eating chinese food with your cat, I hope you have a great New Year's! I encourage wearing glitter, awesome shoes, and something that makes you feel fabulous-even if you aren't leaving the house.
I'm going to be spending the night partying it up with my closest friends from home in my hometown, wearing this:

Just kidding! I am planning on wearing a white dress- as a symbol of a fresh start and also as a nod to the whole "two thousand and heaven" thing- and also red, since it's supposed to be good luck to wear red on New Year's!  I'm also really feeling glitter this year- think super-sparkly make-up and piling on the jewelry!

If you still don't know what to wear, here's some inspiration!

Modcloth Contest for Kaboodle Styleboard

The past few days, I have been making sets using Kaboodle Styleboard. Okay, yes, I realize that I am cheating on Polyvore by using Kaboodle Styleboard. However, I have have been using it- you can connect with Facebook!- to make sets for the Modcloth "A+ Look for Fall" Contest. Winners receive gift cards! If that is not enough incentive, Kaboodle Styleboard is really easy to use. It has some cute styleboard backgrounds. There is also a "hide background" button to makes the background of an item transparent instead of solid white for layering, which isn't always available on Polyvore.  So if you want to win some cute new clothes for school, enter the contest- and post your entries in the comments!  You can submit up to ten collages.

Here are my 3 favorites that I made for the contest:

Can you tell that my favorite color combination for fall is red, gray, and blue? As much as I completely adore summer, I can't wait for the fashion options that fall gives us.

Post your entries in the comments! Good luck!

Things I Love This Week

It is very sad about Alexander McQueen. He will be remembered forever, this has been the death of drama, the death of and innovation. He is the true definition of tragic genius.

Here's a little round-up of posts dedicated to Alexander McQueen. If you posted something or know someone who did, leave it in the comments please.

However, life goes on and we must think about the good things in life that make us happy every day.
Here are some things that made me smile this week:

♥ My favorite band, Brand New, is going on tour!

♥ The Demoiselles = really awesome. Gooo, reeeaaaad!

♥ Doppleganger week on facebook was really funny. According to myheritage.com, I look like Camilla Belle, Mandy Moore, and Lalaine - from Lizzie McGwire! (I don't look like any of these people). It also told my roommate that she looked like the Japanese president, and told me that I looked like Mother Theresa. Haha! According to my friend Jack, I look like Marisa Tomei! According to my brain’s wishes, I look like Rogue from X-Men. I love her!

♥ I'm going to see Four Year Strong tomorrow night! I'm super stoked, I have never seen them live and I've heard that they are amazing.
Also, can someone get me this for Valentine's Day? Please?

♥ This picture of Lady Gaga is beautiful.

This upscaled clothing designer reuses clothing and turns them into beautiful things to wear. PS, she graduated from Parsons!

This snowman, who is clearly a student at The New School, was posted on the Look At This Fucking Hipster blog.

♥  Radical  Self  Love

Have a good weekend everybody!  I'll be running around all weekend, working for NYFW and tearing up the city!  Follow me on twitter for updates!  What's making you smile this week?

Repeat

Hello, hello cuties!
I have been getting back into the swing of things with school lately, and I am already crazy-busy. So, I apologize if this post is a bit all over the place.
It's all good though, "it's whatever", haha!

Here is a song that I've been playing on repeat for the past couple of weeks:

So good! Seriously, the Dear Hunter rock, check out the rest of their stuff.

In terms of fashion and style it has been FREEZING here in New York lately, so I have been
layering like ka-raazy.
I've also been wearing a lot of blue and black, but I will always stay true to my red coat !, so most days my outfits end up looking something like this:

I sense I may be settling into a GAWTH period, haha!

We'll see, though. I'm waiting to see what NEW YORK FASHION WEEK is going to bring us!
Who else is excited?!

How to Keep Your Look Hot When It Is So Damn Cold!

I love fall weather! It is my favorite season. Putting together outfits for fall is so much fun. There are so many more choices because you can layer, wear tights and boots, and wear amazing colors.

Sometimes when the weather is changing to winter, it just gets incredibly coldcoldcold. Many of my friends here at school are from other parts of the world, and many have never seen snow or experienced cold weather! I understand their plight: it can be difficult to express style when it is so cold, you don't even want to get out of bed!
In the city it also gets real windy, and in the morning I often feel tired, freezing and lazy! I often end up wearing jeans and my brother's sweaters every day. However, it is good to force myself to get up and put in some effort! Say it with me: effort! So let's drink some coffee, blast some tunes and liven up our looks!
So without further ado, here are some tips on how to stay warm while still looking hot. ;]

Layering! This is the number one thing you can do. Basics are the key to layering. Here are some items that are fabulous for layering:
♥ Long sleeve tops and sweaters.
Here's an example:

♥ tights and leggings! Wear them on their own, on top of eachother, under pants... you have tons of options.

♥ Outerwear!
♥ investing in some quality outerwear is very important for surviving the cold winter. Here are some important outerwear items for winter:
♥ scarves
scarvey things

♥ gloves. I often find that the hands, face and feet are the first parts of the body to get cold. Since they are the extremeties, it is important to keep these parts of the body warm. Don't worry! There are tons of cute ways to keep your hands warm.

That's all for now :]
How do you look cute while staying warm in the winter months?

Keep it simple with one bold accessory, like a bracelet or ring.

Rainy Day Outfits

It's been cloudy, rainy, and humid almost every day here for the past few weeks, so I figured I would post some rainy day outfits.
You can definitely look stylish and cute even when the world is wet and gray.

Rainy day outfits

Pair a cute, graphic dress with an adorable umbrella that matches your shoes! Be careful not to slip if you are wearing heels!

Embrace the rain! Forget your umbrella and wear this cute necklace instead.  Wear a fun, colorful hoodie, throw on some bright rain boots, and jump in every puddle you see!

Rainy Day 3

A simple, casual outfit with fun shoes and accessories can make you forget that the weather is totally lame. But if I owned this umbrella, I would want it to rain every day.

When it rains, I like to dress in an interesting or cheery way while everyone else is in sweatpants and hoodies!
What's your favorite rainy-day outfit?

Things I Loooove This Week!

♥ The movie Factory Girl. I love it! It actually came out early 2007, I think... it stars Siena Miller as Edie Sedgwick! Since the movie Grey Gardens is out in movie theaters now, about Jackie O's aunt and cousin Edith Beale and Little Edie Beale, I figured it would be appropriate to re-fall in love with everything Edie!

♥ Dying my hair... more pink! :]

Twitter! I know I write about it all the time, but I seriously love it. True, some people take it a little too far- there is such thing as Too Much Information, even on the internet!- but I think it's one of the best social networkin' devices on the interblag.

Overheard in New York. Probably the funniest website ever, and it's a good procrastination tool! :p
Planning outfits for events- like prom :] I have tons of prom outfits on Polyvore- I'll share them here :]

Anticipation! April is almost over... and from now on the rest of the school year is pretty much jam-packed with events! I'm so excited!

Facing your fears

Late-night phone calls

Panera Bread :]

♥ The Goodburger Movie!!!

♥ Car Dance Parties

Earth Day parties!
Love your mother... Get it - mother earth? :p

What is making you smile this week?
xx
Nikkidee! :]
