or

What I Wish My Apartment Looked Like And How I'm Going to Make it Happen

My roommate's and my lease ends in June and already I keep thinking to myself, "when we get a bigger place...."  Well, that's not always possible if you are a.) on a limited/student budget; b.) living in a big city; c.) both.  So I told myself, get with the program, Nikki. You will MAKE. IT. WORK. (Did you get the Tim Gunn reference? I do go to Parsons, after all.) Here's what I'm going to do:

•  first, post my inspiration. 
• Then I will talk about some tricks of living in a small space. 
• Then, I will show some ways that I made my apartment look great while still being functional.

So let's start with the fun part: INSPIRATION YAAYAYAYA

Okay, so what I did first was: I collected a few (a ton of) pictures from The Great and Powerful Interbot that appealed to me. And yeah, I know that last one isn't' even an apartment, it's a tent. I just really like tents, okay? Tents and caravans. No wonder my apartment is so small. And packed with stuff.

You might have also noticed that these pictures all range wildly. Therefore, my next step is to try to figure out which specific elements appealed to me, and what the pictures may have in common. This is clearly a very scientific method of decorating. It's okay, they do it at Frog Design. (This might be true but I may have just made it up.)

Thrifty Finds!

I am attending an ugly sweater party this Sunday.  Therefore, I went to Goodwill to find something to wear. I will post the sweater after the party, but right now I'm mega in love with something else I bought there. I found the CUTEST SHOES EVER!

They are Harajuku Lovers, they were (pretty much) my size and they were only ten dollars.

Ummm SCORE!

Birthday Month of Fun-in Pictures!

December = MY BIRTHDAY MONTH OF FUN

During the month of December, I vowed to do every fun thing that was suggested, and to inject a sense of fun into everything I did!

It was a bit exhausting, but super rewarding. A+ experience, stellar time, would recommend others etc etc!

Therefore, I have a bunch of pictures to show you. And by a bunch, I mean a barrel. By which I mean a ton. Which roughly translates to OMG LOTSA  SO MANY

I did a lot of work for school. Finals!

I turned 18! DUDE.

I bundled up like crazy - in this pictures I believe I am wearing 8 layers on top and five on the bottom, I could barely move my arms - and waited in line for Saturday Night Live tickets at five in the morning.  We didn't get them, but hopefully we will next time!

 

I went out last Thursday for drinks and yummy food with some friends to celebrate the end of finals and our last day of critiques!

My besties from upstate came to visit and spend a weekend with me in the city. I love them and had an amazing time! Best friend weekend!

Also, it snowed! A LOT!

We went to the Union Square holiday craft show thing. I thought these gloves were hilarious!

My friend and I told the guy selling them that they looked great, and he replied, "they would look better on you!"  Of course I just had to try them on! ;]

 

Someone wrote some dirty words on this tree in flour at a pizza shop.  What a grinch! My friend and I crossed them out. :]

Wooo! I've been so busy!  What have you been up to, darlings?

Uglydolls, or Why I Never Want To Grow Up

I think Uglydolls are the cutest things ever. They've been around for a while [since about 2001 actually!] but I was reminded of them recently and figured I would do a post about them. In Uglydoll world, "ugly" means unique and special. Each Uglydoll character has a different name and personality.

I used to have this one: Minimum Wage. I got him at a fair in my town called the Grape Harvest Festival a few years ago. [We have the country's oldest winery or something.] I don't know what happened to him!

I'm a little kid at heart, a total five year old, so of course I think Uglydolls are the best idea ever. Just looking at them makes me happy and brightens up my day. I think that people should never stop playing with toys like these, continue to love childish things and make time to play silly games. In total Peter Pan mindset, I say, never grow up. :]

Anything involving dreams and illusions is al

ways good for a band name, don't you think? ;] Gatsby is the epitome of that and I think the color pink symbolizes that as well. Also they kind of seem like they clash together, right? Virgo Party!

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while! I've been super-busy with things..

Expect to see a bunch of posts sometime this week though.

I went to Gala Darling and Nubby Twiglet's birthday party earlier this month in Strawberry Fields. It was so much fun! Everyone was dressed fantastically. I went with my friend Sarah and my fabulous mom. It was superr hot and humid but we had fun anyway.

On friday after the Parson's showcase I went to Saks Fifth Avenue. I wasn't there for very long because I went to dinner at Tao with my family. However I did buy two new clothing items that i lovelovelove.

This is me chillin' with the Juicy knight in Saks. You can't see half my outfit but I was wearing a dress from H&M, fuscia leggings, and my amazing black Asset boots.
