Color of the Year

According to Pantone, the "global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries", the color of the year for 2009 is "Mimosa".

Mimosa is basically a warm yellow. The company explains that, during this time of economic hardship and uncertainty, and change, optimism is much needed and, "no other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow."

Here's a quote from their website:

"The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance," explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation."

Yellow is also the color of insanity! Didn't they read "The Yellow Wallpaper?" ;] Haha, let's make this year a year of good insanity.  Start looking for cute clothes and accessories in this fun color, it's gonna be big! I'm glad the color yellow is finally getting some attention; it always seems so forgotten to me. And how can anyone forget such a bright, vibrant color?!

Quote of the Day

marykayash.jpg

In her most recent blog article, the blogger Doe Deere quoted my favorite quote ever!
My mom worked for Mary Kay Cosmetics for a long time, and she always said this to me as a "believe in yourself" reminder. :]
“Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly. But the bumble bee doesn’t know it, so it goes on flying anyway.“ - Mary Kay Ash

In my opinion, Mary Kay Ash was an awesome lady. She was an American businesswoman founded Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc. The company began as a storefront in Dallas, Texas but rapidly grew. Mary Kay wanted to help women achieve success in business by following a positive path. She had an interesting and unconventional but still widely respected business outlook.  She considered the Golden Rule to be the founding principle of Mary Kay Cosmetics, and the company's marketing plan was designed to allow women to advance by helping others to succeed. She advocated "praising people to success" keeping life in balance. I find her to be very inspirational.

"You cannot keep determined people from success." -Mary Kay Ash

“Many people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try.”  -Mary Kay Ash

Words to live by, I think!

What I Wore

Hey hey everyone! I hope you all had an awesome weekend
I was away all weekend at a theater conference hosted by NYSTEA. NYSTEA conference is a weekend-long conference for theater kids where you can attend workshops, view performances and meet tons of super-awesome people.  It was my second year attending and I had a BLAST. I miss it already.

Anyway, here's what I wore to take a salsa-dancing workshop the first night I was there.

Floralsss

Flowery things are major this season, and nothing says spring fever quite like 'em.
I heart flowery dresses for any occasion, so here's a few of my favorite ways to wear them and other flooowery pieces:

Try adding some tough or modern pieces to keep your outfit from looking too little-old-lady-ish. [Although little old ladies are often totally fabulous  ;]  ]

And for all of you tomboys out there, my advice is to keep it simple with cool floral accessories or sneakers :]

Can you tell that I want winter to be over? :p

What I Wore on New Years Eve

Here's what I wore to my friend's New Years Eve party! Haha, sorry for the ridiculous picture!

Sparkly Dresses = Love!
My headband has a big sparkly butterfly on it. I got it at Libby Lou, which is a store for little girls! [and I love it!]   ;]

I've been really obsessed with glitter and sparkles lately! [even more than usual, haha]
It may just be the season...I definitely think that holidays deserve a little extra glam ;]

Anyway, I had tons of fun but I'm dying to know, what did you do for the new year? And more importantly, what did you wear?!

xx Nikkidee :]
