Style Direction: Watercolor Goth

Hello friends!
How are you on this fine spring day? I can literally hear birds chirping outside of my window. Even the grating sound of someone continuously pressing the buzzer in my neighbor's apartment can't annoy me today.
That being said, it is finals right now, and I kind of feel like I'm going to keel over and explode at any minute now. If you are in the middle of finals as you read this, good luck and remember to breathe!

In the spirit of spring time, I've decided to write up a little Style Direction post featuring my Spring and Summer 2012 style that I'm feeling right now.

For lack of a better name, I'm going to temporarily title it

Wicked Watercolor Riot GURL

or maybe Wicked for short. Maybe FROTH- frothy fresh goth.  Watercolor Wicked? There we go.  I like them both.

So anyway, forging on! When it comes to fashion, (and life), I crush on everything.  I can't help but mix a million elements into my personal style. My ADHD addled art student brain sops up everything and mixes it in the blender to spit out a darkly glittering cocktail of INSPIRING FEELINGS.

The recipe for my Watercolor Wicked style is as follows:

Take the fabrics, jewelry, and silhouettes of the First War era glam, dunk it in the colors of a Kathy Dennis Impressionist Watercolor, and sprinkle in the accessories of a true riot punk.

Use as many OLD THINGS as possible to achieve this look. (And remember, darling, time is elastic, and old is subjective.)

all images are click-through to source

what i'm into for summer: fluffy shorts under fifties dresses, shredded and cropped tees, Peter Pan collars, fresh-to-death colorful sneakers, gypsy jewelry, comic book tee-shirts, spiked accessories, knee socks, black, pastels, flowers in my hair, snapbacks and baseball caps.

What's your style inspiration this summer?

Links I Love and Daisies Galore

Here's some link-lovin' for the week. I heart procrastination, uh oh!

You Are Beautiful project. Such a great idea, everyone should be reminded of this daily. :] There's a lot of really cool, inspiring artwork on the site as well. Contribute to the love!

Young blaggers have influence in the fashion world! I mean duhh, ;] but it's a pretty cool article. Clickety-click.

❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊

♥ Zo is awesome, creative, and has amazing hair. Also, her blog is super rad. :]

❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊

♥ Okay, so I had to research geometry in nature for a 2-D integrated design project, and I found this video. It's pretty amazing and way more
informative than any math classes I've ever taken! I think it was made by a cabinet company, so just ignore the advertising towards the end.

❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊

♥ LIFE Gallery: The Many Faces of Barbie. Just look at how she's changed! Barbie may be a doll, but she is totally a fashion icon!

Okay, so you might be wondering what's up with the daisy theme to this post.
Well my favorite band, Brand New, came out with a new CD last Tuesday titled Daisy.

❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊

I've listened to it a few times through already and I really like it. It's pretty dark and heavy and I really enjoy it. I might do a full write-up on it at another time, but I figured I would share my happiness and enthusiasm right now! :]
The band is streaming some of the songs from the album on their myspace, so I encourage you to check it out!

Share some cool links with us this week! Have you heard Daisy? What do you think?

Tim Burton's Alice Pictures

Tim Burton is directing a movie version of Alice in Wonderland to be released in 2010. I am completely obsessed with Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and I love all things Alice so I'm super anxious for this movie! It stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. I think Helena Bonham Carter is amazing, and of course everyone loves Johnny Depp. The film, which has Alice returning to Wonderland 10 years after her first visit, is scheduled to hit theaters in 3-D next spring.

I'm not sure what I think of the images yet...but I'm sure Tim Burton won't let us down. It will definitely be interesting!

What do you think?

Initial Rings

I know they're old news and all, but at the moment I'm totally obsessed with initial rings.
They're like the girly, glam version of sick knuckle tats! And you can make them say anything, at any time. I'm making it my goal to have the entire alphabet by the time I graduate High School. [You hear that, Girlprops.com? Wink, Wink!]

Girlprops.com has these cute ones for pretty cheap. :]

I want some for prom, so I can make my knuckles say PROM 2009!

BLINK 182 REUNION!

Blink 182 has announced their reunion!

The news leaked before they announce it officially, but here's Blink 182 announcing the news at the Grammy's:

Yay! I am personally super excited about this. I always loved Blink 182, there's was one of the first CDs I ever bought. They're really influential but know how to have tons of fun with their music.

"I think we should continue with what we've been doing for the past 17 years. I think we should get back on the road and back in the studio and do what we love doing." -Mark Hoppus

What do you guys think of Blink 182, their reunion and the members' other bands?

Links I Love!

I don't know how I didn't find this website before, but The Fashion Police is my new favorite fashion-related page!
With blog-post categories such as "Sock Horror!", "Fashion Fraud Squad", and "Wear or Die", The Fashion Police are sure to keep you informed- and cracking up!

I also really enjoy Gothic Charm School. "The Lady of the Manners"provides lots of snarky but thoughtful posts about gothic fashion and everything that goes along with it. You can also buy merch with logos and quotes from the site. My favorite is a shirt with the phrase "I'm not leaving, I'm flouncing!"
It's even super-enjoyable if you're non-spooky-biscuits.

Altamira has fantastic pictures of well-dressed people in NYC :]

help-i-have-a-headache.jpg

Help has these cool little "help i have a headache" and "help i cut myself" first-aid packs. The packaging has such an awesome design, and is made from molded paper pulp [which means it is compostable and therefore totally environment-friendly!] Their website is hilarious and has a help i'm bored section, which has really entertaining subjects such as "help i have ghosts", "help i have too much money", and "help i am in Munich and I need to use the restroom but I don't know how to say restroom in German." Ha!

♥  Hunter S. Thompson Motivational Posters. That is all I have to say.

Stuff White People Like. There's a book now, most of it's pretty funny.

What are some of your favorite go-to websites?

Style Crush: Lady Gaga

I love Lady Gaga.
Her music videos have an awesome dance party vibe; her style is futuristic with a touch of 80's. Lady Gaga has fantastic makeup...and so much glitterrrrrr! Also, her lightning bolt symbol is awesome.

I officially have a style crush on her.

Photobucket

She's in New York on December 31. I sooo want to see her live. That would be the coolest New Year's Eve dance party ever.

Also, I love this video. Why don't I get invited to parties like that? haha ;]

Breaking Dawn

Sorry for the lack of updates this week! Being in the city for 90% of the day keeps me busybusybusy. But I did promise to write about Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in Twilight the series by Stephanie Meyer. They are, to put it very simply, about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire.

So I went to the Barnes and Noble midnight release of Breaking Dawn last friday. The event itself was pretty fun because I was there with some friends. People were dressed in all different ways: from jeans and t-shirts to fancy dresses to corsets to capes. The store announced that they didn't have enough books for people who didn't preorder one; since I didn't preorder one I thought I wouldn't be getting a book. But as they were about to close I went to the register to pay for my new Moleskine notebooks I saw a small stack of books behind the register. I asked about them, and they let me buy one. :] I got lucky, I was possibly the only person who didn't preorder a book but got one anyway; sometimes all you have to do is ask!

After the event,I went to a diner with my friends and then went home and started to read. I finished the book and I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't read it, so I'm just going to say that a few parts surprised me but by the end I was very happy with the conclusion.

The Twilight movie will be in theaters this winter on December 12 [the day after my birthday!] The casting is pretty good from what I can tell. Kristen Stewart will star as Bella, which I think is right on the money. However Robert Pattinson is playing Edward, which just kind of makes me laugh because I don't think I will be able to get past the fact that he played Cedric Diggory. I feel like I will watch the movie and be thinking, no Bella it's a trick! Edward CAN'T be immortal; he dies in Harry Potter! Oh well, we will see how he does. :p
Have I mentioned that I'm a huge nerd? PS Note the lime green Voté José shirt that I am wearing!
What are your thoughts on Breaking Dawn, the Twilight Series and the upcoming movie? Hide spoilers please!
Lovelovelove,
Nikkidee! :]
