In Other News

In other news, today is Vincent Van Gogh's birthday!

Happy Birthday Vincent Van Gogh!

Maybe he'll cheer up for a change.  Everyone loves you now, man! I'm sorry that she didn't!
Come on, you're bleeding in the cake. Oh that's paint? Well that's okay, we're used to that here.  Love ya!

In other other news:
♥  Lady Gaga's song "Alejandro" is apparently number 87 on the itunes charts

These are pretty funny! I think they are really accurate.

I WANT THIS. I would eat golden meals every day and of course, when life gives you lemons you paint that shit gold

♥ the rain was pretty intense today and I secretly enjoyed it

♥ DEADMAU5 was on Gossip Girl last night.

♥ David Bowie. Enough said.

If you are in NYC, come see my friends The Years Gone By play at Webster Hall tomorrow night! They are super rad.  Jetlag Gemini is playing too.  I will be there! Come say hi, I promise I'm friendly!  I'll be the girl with partially pink hair, probably wearing a TYGB shirt and losing ten thousand scene points while I smile and dance and sing all the words.  I told you they were rad. Pop punk will live forever! I accidentally wrote "love" at first instead of "live" but it is all the same.

What I Wore: Valentine's Day

Helloooo, here is what I wore on Valentine's Day:

My shirt says "NY Don't <3 U" ;]

I spent the day with my friends, eating cupcakes and walking around. My friend Jose came to visit me, and we went to the Museum of Sex. Scandalous!

Plaster casts of condoms = sex art. My friend Tori's comment to me: "I bet you would make something like that." Thanksss Tori haha
Different slang terms for condoms. My favorite: Manhattan Eel

So as you can see, we had a giggly fun time. If you are in NYC, I recommend that you check it out, it's actually really interesting!

How was your Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day Outfits and Radical Self Love

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, and most people are either dreading it or excited for it- usually depending on whether or not they are in a relationship.
Heyyyyy people in the first group, cheer up and remember what this holiday is supposed to be about: LoOoOove! ;]

The super-rad Gala Darling has declared the entire month of February the month of
Radical Self Love
On Twitter you can tag posts as #radicalselflove.

So take this time to ask yourself: what do you love?  Then dedicate the entire day to that!  It can be your pet kitty-cat, gardening, making music... Figuring out what simple things make you happy can be an awesome step to loving yourself, totally, completely, awesomely. Love the world, love your friends, love yourself!

So now that we've got that covered, it is on to the real question: what are you going to wear?!
Here I present to you, some inspiration:
Valentine's Day Outfits!

For the punk Minnie Mouse in all of us, whose greatest love is the music coming from her headphones.

For the girl who marches to her own drum - the beat of her heart.

For the girl who spends Valentine's Day whispering in strangers' ears,

"Mon chéri, m'aimez-vous?"

For the girl who loves her cat more than her boyfriend. ;]

Vday 5
Vday 5 by nikkidee featuring All Saints jackets

For the girl who worked at a coffee shop all day on Valentine's Day, then danced home and continued her life.

For the girl who spent the entire day writing love letters.

- ♥ - ♥ - ♥ - ♥ - ♥ - ♥ - ♥ - ♥

So what do you think, duckies? Can we take action on V-Day? Work with it, and not against it? Turn all the love you can muster in on yourself, and then let it shine out of you like electricity?!  Get out there and va la parte un certo amore- go share some love!

What are you planning to do with all of that love you are capable of?

The PULSE Tour 2010: Atlantic City

The first weekend in January this year, I was lucky enough to attend the PULSE Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
I got to take classes with my three favorite choreographers ever - Sonya Tayeh (I've written about her before!) , Mia Michaels, and Wade Robson - among others.

Here are some pictures from Sonya Tayeh's class. I'm the one with the pink shirt and long brown hair.

The above picture is Laurieann Gibson teaching a workshop. We learned part of a dance for Monster by Lady Gaga. Laurieann is crazy! And awesome! I follow her on Twitter, @BoomKack, and she always has something encouraging to say (see here!). At one point during the class, she swaggered up to one of the male dancers, laughing, and said, "Let me touch you, so you turn to gold.
Definitely one of the best things I've ever heard!

Me with my friends Lilly, Allie, and Emily, and CRIS JUDD!

We learned some really cool dances. A lot of the choreographers have choreographed for the show So You Think You Can Dance, which I am obsessed with! So when I found out we were learning a few dances from the show, I was super excited!

For example, we learned this dance, choregraphed by the legendary Mia Michaels. She is so inspirational. During the class she gave a little speech about the importance of growing and pushing yourself, and I will never forget it.

Then there was Wade Robson. When he came on stage I believe I was crying, I'm not going to lie. He is amazing, and has accomplished so much for someone so young. He co-directed Britney Spears' 1999 tour at age nineteen!

We learned this dance, choreographed by the amazing Dave Scott. There is a really cool video on youtube of Dave and Wade doing the dance!

I had the weekend of a lifetime! I grew so much as a dancer and a person in such a short amount of time; I can't wait for next year!

Have you done anything to push yourself lately?

Tag You're It NYC

My friends in my lab class at school did a really cool project called Tag You're It.
For the project, they created a "business" and identity, then gathered in Washington Square Park and attempted to start a giant game of tag.
I think that this could really spread, and maybe happen every weekend in parks, schools, and recreation areas around the city and around the world!

New Year's Resolutions

Here at Wishful Thinking, we are going to do something a little bit different as we look towards the new year ahead.

The beginning of a new year is probably the only time I make lists and get organized!
The first list is dreams. I daydream all day long about the magical life I want to have, and the magic that I want to spread to others!
The second list is resolutions to fulfill, either in the new year or beginning next year, that will help achieve those dreams.

Here is my personal list:

♥ Share yours in the comments!

WISH!

I wish to be a designer of dreams, a style discoverer, a pilot to the sun.
I wish to help the world through creative works.
I wish to be a fashion designer, and challenge conventional ideas of fashion and style
I wish to be part of the creation of music in some way.
I wish to spread the magic and love that I feel in my life every day.
I wish to travel to all parts of the world

ACTIONS!

I will learn Italian
I will take steps to learning to properly play the piano
I will continue to develop as an artist
I will make friends with many more amazing people!
I will help out and volunteer more!
I will spread whimsy everywhere I go (it is my favorite word!)

RESOLUTIONS

Instead of Resolutions, I have little phrases that remind me to stay focused on the ideas in my list!
This year, I have three main ideas that I want to stay focused on as I make my adventurous way through the year!

Get your HEART racing!

♥ Make your DREAM life happen!

♥ SHARE the LOVE!

I am so excited!  It is time to look back on the decade (!) with love and no regrets!
It is time to look ahead and get excited for a new start!

Thanks for reading, everyone! I love you!
See you next year!

Thrifty Finds!

I am attending an ugly sweater party this Sunday.  Therefore, I went to Goodwill to find something to wear. I will post the sweater after the party, but right now I'm mega in love with something else I bought there. I found the CUTEST SHOES EVER!
They are Harajuku Lovers, they were (pretty much) my size and they were only ten dollars.
Ummm SCORE!

Check out the cute!

This is what I wore today with my new shoes.
Also, you can find and hype this outfit on my LOOKBOOK. ;]

Hooray for unexpected finds!
I also found some other silly things there:

Graffiti on the wall in red crayon.  Poor kid, why would his parents name him Bighead?!
hahaha

This creepy, staring, blue eyed cat figurine.

Oh, and one more thing:

Merry Christmas!

Love you!

Birthday Month of Fun-in Pictures!

December = MY BIRTHDAY MONTH OF FUN
During the month of December, I vowed to do every fun thing that was suggested, and to inject a sense of fun into everything I did!
It was a bit exhausting, but super rewarding. A+ experience, stellar time, would recommend others etc etc!
Therefore, I have a bunch of pictures to show you. And by a bunch, I mean a barrel. By which I mean a ton. Which roughly translates to OMG LOTSA  SO MANY

Are you ready for picture overload?!

I did a lot of work for school. Finals!

I turned 18! DUDE.

I bundled up like crazy - in this pictures I believe I am wearing 8 layers on top and five on the bottom, I could barely move my arms - and waited in line for Saturday Night Live tickets at five in the morning.  We didn't get them, but hopefully we will next time!

I went out last Thursday for drinks and yummy food with some friends to celebrate the end of finals and our last day of critiques!

My besties from upstate came to visit and spend a weekend with me in the city. I love them and had an amazing time! Best friend weekend!
Also, it snowed! A LOT!

We went to the Union Square holiday craft show thing. I thought these gloves were hilarious!
My friend and I told the guy selling them that they looked great, and he replied, "they would look better on you!"  Of course I just had to try them on! ;]

Someone wrote some dirty words on this tree in flour at a pizza shop.  What a grinch! My friend and I crossed them out. :]

Wooo! I've been so busy!  What have you been up to, darlings?

Things I Love This Week

being proud of being a nerd, writing, staying up all night to do things that make me happy not just for class, feeling organized, rediscovering old music, highlighter shades of colors, drawing dinosaurs, jellyFISHES, the Museum of Natural History, BESTIE COMING TO THE CITY AT THE END OF NEXT WEEK, the semester is almost over, the Christmas season in the city, getting excited about the pathetic rain-snow we got, languages, text messaging, skyping with my besties while I do homework, Artichoke Pizza, goin' willld sometimes, zines, being close with my brother, online "screen shopping" -which is the interweb equivelant of window shopping, the fact that all my friends here sing as badly as I do! haha, mcdonalds kids meal toys, HARRY POTTER MARATHONS, a room full of random people singing happy birthday to me at midnight, going into an xxx shop with friends just for jokes and because I can, midnight breakfast,
MY BIRTHDAY IS TODAY

I love you all, and so far I've had a great two hours and fourteen minutes of finally being eighteen years old!
I hope you all have a great weekend! AND I HOPE IT SNOWS THIS WEEKEND IN NEW YORK CITY!

Black Friday

Hello lovelies!

I'm back in the city and I had a great weekend upstate for Thanksgiving.  I got to see some friends, hang out with my family, and relax a bit before returning to school.

On Friday I went to the Woodbury Commons.  It was extremely crowded and busy!  Many of my friends worked longgg shifts on Black Friday, so I went to visit them and check out the sales. Honestly, the sales weren't that great but I had fun anyway.
I didn't end up buying anything, but I took some cute pictures!

We had to park across the street and walk through this weird pathway and over a bridge!

My roomie

My friend Sarah

On another note, I painted my nails last week. They were inspired by the Museum of Modern Art, but everyone tells me they look Christmas-y.
Now they're all stained pink from my hair dye!

What did you do this weekend?

xx Nikkidee! :]
